Punk rock band Green Day stopped by the District on Monday to perform a sold out show at the Verizon Center. The band is currently touring North America to promote their 12th studio album, Revolution Radio, which debuted in October 2016. Opening for Green Day was Against Me!, a punk rock band from Gainseville, Florida.
Green Day frontman and punk icon Billie Joe Armstrong put on a stellar performance, singing a mix of new songs and classics like “American Idiot” and “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” At one point, Armstrong brought a young fan up to do a running stage dive off of the catwalk. The screams of 20,000 fans throughout the night were proof that even three decades after its inception, the band is still going strong.
