After being gifted with one snow day, University of Maryland students demanded yet another.
Victor Chen, a resident of College Park according to his Facebook, created a petition Monday titled “Cancel School March 4th 2014.”
The petition has been circulating the Internet since the announcement of the university’s delayed opening.
The petition stated that frigid conditions could cause accidents and prove for treacherous walking conditions for students traveling to classes.
Chen is clearly not satisfied with President Loh’s decision of a two-hour delay.
“Delayed opening is simply not enough,” Chen’s petition reads.
Several supporters posted comments on Chen’s petition.
Anne Savage commented: “I signed up for school in Maryland, not Canada.”
Allan Miller commented: “I just want to remind you that Terrapins aren’t Winter animals. We aren’t the penguins. We’re the Terrapins. ‘Terrapins hibernate in the colder months in most of their range.’”
At this time, Chen’s petition has gathered 7,565 supporters with 2,435 needed.
Students continue to sign the petition into the wee hours of the morning.
